On Sunday 8 November musicians around the world learned with shock and disbelief that cellist extraordinaire, Alexander Buzlov had passed away. He was just 37 years old. This humble musician, in demand across the globe for his supreme mastery of the cello, was a special presence at the SICMF for several years running.
Alexander was an extremely likable person whose kind and gentle demeanor combined with a captivating presence on stage saw him revered and befriended around the world. Social media has exploded with images and recordings of this truly sublime musician.
Many South Africans are amongst those who have lost a mentor, a chamber music partner and a friend. Alexander leaves behind his wife, Alissa Margulis and their daughter Amalia. On behalf of the staff and students of the SICMF, the management of the SICMF would like to offer their deepest sympathies and condolences to the family and friends of Sasha, Alissa and Amalia at this most difficult time.
